Common Thread Practice is a regional practice development initiative dedicated to strengthening domestic and family violence capability across practitioners, organisations and communities.

We work alongside organisations to build workforce capability, strengthen professional practice and support sustainable improvements in domestic and family violence responses through workforce development, reflective practice, implementation support and organisational consultation.

We believe safer outcomes for children, adult victim survivors and communities are strengthened when practitioners, organisations and systems are supported to think critically, work collaboratively and translate evidence-informed learning into everyday practice.

Our work is grounded in intersectional feminist, trauma-informed and relational approaches that centre the experiences and safety of children and adult victim survivors while maintaining accountability for the person using violence. Drawing on Safe & Together principles, attachment theory and systems thinking, we support organisations to strengthen capability, improve practice and create safer, more connected and more accountable responses to domestic and family violence.

Our approach focuses on helping organisations move from awareness to action, from knowledge to practice, and from training to sustainable change.

Training & Workforce Development

Common Thread Practice delivers evidence-informed workforce development that strengthens domestic and family violence capability across specialist and non-specialist workforces.

We believe creating safer outcomes for children and families requires both specialist domestic and family violence expertise and a broader workforce that feels confident recognising domestic and family violence, responding safely within their professional role and connecting individuals and families with appropriate support.

Responding to domestic and family violence is a shared responsibility across communities and services, but not everyone has the same role. Different professionals require different levels of knowledge, confidence and capability depending on the work they do.

Our workforce development opportunities are designed to support professionals at different levels of practice, from recognising and responding to domestic and family violence through to advanced practice development and implementation support.
